One of our most notable projects last year was this absolute beachfront rooftop terrace. The DRN Projects management team was called upon for design and construct services, and as always, we responded enthusiastically. The brief was simple. Take these 2 very tired, outdated and run down rooftop terraces and join them to create one joyous space. Make it a place the family could enjoy the winter sun & the summer breeze. Simple lines, no fussy over the top design. Just the quality essentials.
A Great Plan With An Unexpected Twist
In the true DRN Projects style, we approached the job the way we do with any construction & project management job on the Gold Coast ‒ with professionalism and careful planning. Logistically, everything was organised from programmed contractors, crane lifts and material and furniture deliveries, but what was meant to be a 9-week job turned into a 19-week job with unexpected La Niña conditions delaying the process.
As a result, crane lifts were abandoned as the GCCC park was too unstable to traverse and trades had to be continually rescheduled. Needless to say, anxiety was running high. Nevertheless, Come rain or shine, our commitment to completing this task for our client, and there was no way we could let him down. Where there is a will, we will make there is a way!
So, left without a crane, our dedicated DRN Projects team & contractors carried tonnes of materials up to the roof by hand in a trade elevator, two flights of service stairs, along a rooftop service corridor and hand lifted into the terrace. By no means an easy feat!

Being a body corporate building with a hotel aspect, we had to juggle short working days, noise restrictions all the while keeping communication transparent and open between the body corporate and hotel counterpart.

La Niña played the biggest role in creating the challenges we experienced during the construction process, but the long-awaited reveal did not disappoint! Ultimately the success hinged on the delivery of the expectation and brief of the client, and we were very fortunate to have the most exceptional and understanding client in regards to the timeline. Although they were in Melbourne for the duration of the project, we had their unwavering support during the lengthy process. For this we are so grateful. Finally, we were ready for the big reveal! After weeks & weeks of unrelenting weather, our DRN Projects team pulled through to produce a gorgeous roof terrace. Needless to say, the client was delighted.
